affiliates are destroying "surfing the net". It is now not possible to research a topic without 100% of your results being filtered through some marketer trying to score a few bucks by hi-jacking your keywords and directing you to their landing pages. Remember how it used to be when you put in a search and Amazon popped in and had just what you were looking for, many times it was a subject and not an item. That was fun and you knew it was just an ad so you ignored it. Of course Google loves it because they get paid on all those clicks.
I don't mind affiliates advertising, polling, reviewing and generally guiding people to specific purchases, but when you are looking for information with no intention of buying anything, it's a big problem for me. Want information on stained glass? No longer can you get pure information, it's been hi-jacked to allow you to only go to someones landing pages. Go right on down the line of your search, every key word you use to search with has been taken over and you are directed to someones page. I guess the info may still be there but you have to click your way and finally give your personal information to be sent to a blog, a review, (not legit, where's their credentials?)
